Company’s Mission
Design, manufacture, distribute and assess in the calculation and usage of the Bases for scaffolds, on building and restoring sites in urban areas. To this purpose we carry out a consistent promotional job in explaining the advantages already indicated of, pavement minimum space usage and maximum accessibility to commercial shops, to the organizations and entities affected or involved in this matter. Such as: a) Town Halls (Town Planning, Housing and Trade Council Departments), b) Shopkeepers’ Associations, c) Disabled people Associations, d) Architect offices and sales area, e) Building and restoring Companies, g) Scaffold rental and assembly companies.

CONCLUSION: By means of a simple manufacturing and assembly technique we have left the pavement clean and the shops accessible. Patented product.

Product Name
Bases for Scaffolds

Description
Scaffold base. Conceived to serve as support to any scaffold and for materials and building and restoring site equipment, such as construction trailers, stored materials, tools, rubbles, etc. Its design has accomplished a pavement minimum space usage. For example: the traditional base for restoring façade site a) modules of 3.0 m. long by 1.0 m wide. In 15 m2, 12 pillars are needed of support on the pavement. In this same surface the Garza base only needs 4 supports b) the traditional base joins the supports by bars and struts. The Garza base does not take these elements into account as it neutralises the horizontal efforts in another way. C) The assembly is simple: the elements are joined by bolts secured with closing latches and other equally simple parts. Therefore there is no need of heavy machinery or tool.

CURRICULUM
Member of the company and Director, Technician, Engineer, Industrial Mechanic. Developer and Investigator of the project for 4 years until the completion of equipments that are already in service in various cities in Spain. With wide experience in restoring and construction through companies in the sector.
TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION

The light structure and in appearance simple that photo 3 shows has meant a strong innovative boost, condensed in five elements or factors, due to the multiplying effect of all of them, as you will see as follows.

Before an explanation of the innovative elements it is necessary to make reference to the current solution: photo nr. 1, view of a module of 3 m. long by 2 m. high, standard measurements, with some pillar joint elements, in blue, called St. Andrew’s cross or cross piece.

INNOVATIVE ELEMENTS

. First Innovative element

In the basic project a row of pillars has been eliminated, therefore the load has been transferred to the remaining row (photos 3, 4, and 5)
. Result
- We have created the first scaffold to be supported on only one row of pillars, thanks to, amongst other elements that due to lack of space can not be explained, a bracket ( knee brace) that may take different positions (photos 3 and 4).
- We have reduced to half the nr. of supports on the pavement.

. Second innovative element

We call it Flexion High Efficiency: spans of great length supported by a set of 4 light beams: shaped sections, not laminated, simple non-reinforced beams. Elements to be managed by a maximum of 2 workers with no need of elevation equipment. Photo nr. 3 shows the central span, of 9.4 m.
The High efficiency is due to
- Correct section design,
- Appropriate steel choice,
- New and original assembly.

All this makes the high bending moments that occur in the span’s middle area be transferred to other parts of the beam, even the supports, reducing in this way that effort to nearly 50%.
. Result
- The current standard span, fig.1, of 3.0 m has become a medium span Garza of 6.0 m,
- In this way a reduction is produced of the nr. of supports of another 50%, reduction that multiplied by the First innovative element, results in a total reduction of 25%.
- The Garza base for Scaffolds only needs the forth part of the traditional supports.

. Third innovative element

The metallic elements that joined the pillars have been eliminated (in blue in fig.1) as may been seen in the pictures 2, 3, 4, and 5. The mission to resist the horizontal forces parallel to the façade that those elements had have now passed on to the support horizontal plane . Result
- Considerable increase in the pedestrian mobility and access to the shops.
- With these three elements we have accomplished the Garza Project objectives: restore the mobility to the people on the pavement and access to the stated shops

. Forth innovative element

New assembly system, different to the current ones, that are butt joined, by welding, by screws or by socket ( clamping one extreme of the part with the others, as the current tubular scaffolds).
The new joint is solved by crossing, that is why there are bore-holes along the axis at regular intervals. It has required a design of new bolts and safety elements
. Result
- We have created a variable geometric three-dimensional system. Observe the shown measurements.
o Picture Height Length
Photo 3 3.5 m 4.2 / 9.4 / 5.6 m
Photo 2 4.5 m 4.6 / 5.2 / 2.8 m
- The system can now adapt to the buildings typology

. Fifth innovative element

The constituent element of the beams is the same one as that of the pillars: a sole element a simple and economic Basic section forms the structure of the Base.
. Result
- When demands permit medium or high production levels the direct cost of manufacturing will go down considerably.
- The manufacturing itself is intrinsically cheap: in only one pass or phase of the machine for plate transforming (folding, perforating and cutting)

. Final economic analysis

Cost reduction of economic manufacturing by two ways

- Reducing the nr. of spans we have reduced the nr. of Kg of steel used (see Photo 2 and figure out the amount of material that would be needed with the traditional solution of photo 1.)
- Cost intrinsically low due to the simplicity of the basic element.

. Other Technical Solutions

The system itself offers us day after day solutions that at the beginning we had not imagined. Example, picture 7. Having studied the solution for the Madrid Town Hall: as well as loading a scaffold to the right we may load other site elements, such as construction trailers, materials, machinery, etc.

FINANCING

The economic effort in this first year has been focused on
- Construction and assembly of the first equipments
- Promotion all over Spain, with a very small commercial force, therefore a future commercial partner is in no way rejected.

ENTRANCE TO EUROPE

The fact of winning the National Prize and soon being present in Paris for the final, has made us vary our strategy, in the sense of taking advantage of this opportunity and establish relationships with companies in the construction world that may be present at this event.
