Digital Library Peer-to-Peer
Biblioteca d'Alessandria is an informatic system devoted to the research and share of full-text scientific documents among scientists, on a peer to peer network, supported by a digital rights management technology
This is a totally new concept of P2P, allowing authors (or rights owners) to decide whether to condition the use of a document or not, whether to put a fee on it or not.
Like most of P2Ps, BdA (Biblioteca d'Alessandria, but also Broad Digital Archive) features a messaging service, so those researchers can talk, ask and collaborate.
Possible uses of such a system are virtually infinite; only users themselves (the researchers) will tell and find the most clever and useful ones. Though, some of them can be easily guessed, along with some direct consequences of the wide use of BdA.
The huge amount of gold information called ‘grey literature’, made of millions of works per year, presently laying inside of drawers or buried in hard disks, can be unearthed. A large diffusion of BdA will give birth to a broad scientific community, finally a real, tight, collaborative and not just a would-be one.
BdA will also be exploited by research institutes to build their own recognizable digital archive (most of them still don't have one) and to start their own e-press. Each scientist can invite the people he collaborates with (often scattered around the world) to install the software and use it to be constantly in touch and to have their documents always shared, even the works-in-progress. In addiction, share of documents and direct communications are the perfect base for e-Learning; companies will find BdA the perfect tool to acquire scientific information critical for their activities and to seek for scientific personnel to hire or to ask for consultancy. Aim of the BdA is to bring benefit to all the value chain players and end users of the scientific knowledge creation, diffusion and teaching system, granting free share and author's rights at once.

Il lavoro dei componenti della Biblioteca d'Alessandria, la loro formazione e le consulenze professionali necessarie al progetto sono state finanziate da Spinner  , una iniziativa della Regione Emilia-Romagna finanziata dal Fondo Sociale Europeo diretta a sostenere l'imprenditorialità innovativa e il trasferimento di competenze dal sistema della ricerca alle imprese valorizzando il know-how di chi ricerca e studia in regione.
BdA para la Diseminación Peer to Peer de Documentos Científicos a Texto Completo
Biblioteca d'Alessandria es un sistema de información para compartir y buscar documentos científicos a cuerpo completo, por científicos, en una red peer-to-peer, incluyendo tecnología de gestión de derechos digitales, DRM (digital rights management).
Este es totalmente un nuevo concepto de P2P, permitiendo a los autores (o a los propietarios de sus derechos) decidir las condiciones de uso de un documento o no, a través de un pago o de forma gratuita. Como la mayor parte de los P2Ps, BdA (Biblioteca d'Alessandria o Broad Digital Archive) también incluye un sistema de mensajería digital, por lo cual los investigadores pueden conversar unos con otros, mejorando la colaboración.
Existe una gran cantidad de valiosa documentación, incluyendo la llamada "literatura gris", conformada por millones de documentos, presente en archivos, o discos duros, que podrán ver la luz. Una gran difusión de la BdA dará vida a una amplia comunidad científica, finalmente real, estrecha y colaborativa.
BdA para Archivos de Documentos Científicos de Texto Completo
BdA puede ser también explotada por institutos de investigación que trabajan en diferentes campos para construir su propio archivo digital (muchos de ellos no cuentan todavía con uno) y para comenzar su propia prensa electrónica. Los científicos y las Instituciones pueden invitar a la gente que colabora con ellos, a veces diseminados alrededor del mundo, para instalar el software y usarlo para estar en contacto constante y compartir documentos, incluso para proyectos en desarrollo. Además, los documentos compartidos y las comunicaciones directas forman una base ideal para el e-Learning; las compañías encontrarán a la BdA como la perfecta herramienta para adquirir información científica importante para sus actividades y también para buscar personal científico o consultores. La intención de la BdA es ofrecer beneficios a todos los jugadores involucrados en la cadena de valor y a los usuarios finales de la creación de conocimiento científico, difusión y sistemas de enseñanza, garantizando un libre compartir de recursos, al tiempo que los derechos de autor.
